Tampa, Florida
This CSX Railroad crossing is 0.19 miles south of 7th Avenue on 50th Street. The purpose of this project was to adjust the roadway approaches to accommodate the reconstruction of the three railroad tracks at this crossing by CSX. The profile was designed to accommodate raising the tracks 3.5 inches above the existing average outside track elevations. The goal of this design is to improve the safety and ride-ability of the crossing and meeting the new grade of the tracks. A Resurfacing Restoration and Rehabilitation Safety and Condition Report was prepared.
The roadway is a six lane divided urban section with concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk, and curbed median. Drainage is conveyed by a closed storm sewer system. There are CSX railroad crossing signals and gates on either side of the crossing. The project required extensive Community Awareness and detour planning. The detour plan included SR 60 (Adamo Drive), North 39th and 40th Streets, and Columbus Drive. In addition to the traffic control plan, utility adjustments and signing and pavement marking plans were prepared. CSX Railroad performed the track related construction and Florida Department of Transportation executed the related highway construction work.
