ELEMENT Engineering Group Expands Capabilities through Acquisition of OMNI Communications

OMNI complements ELEMENT services with subsurface utility engineering capability

TAMPA, FL, January 5, 2021–ELEMENT Engineering Group (ELEMENT), a minority and disadvantaged business enterprise (MBE/DBE) firm providing civil and transportation engineering and survey services to Florida’s communities, has completed its acquisition of award-winning, woman-owned OMNI Communications (OMNI). OMNI is a recognized provider of subsurface utility engineering (SUE), utility coordination, and public involvement support services. The acquisition will provide both firms’ existing and future clients with a more extensive suite of services and deeper expertise across a growing range of high-stakes projects.

“ELEMENT and OMNI have been collaborating on projects for more than a decade,” says Derek Gil, founder and president of ELEMENT. “Having both started our businesses at the same time with complementary services, we have supported each other and worked together so that, over the years, clients often used our two firms on the same projects. Working together on these projects has only enhanced the synergy between our firms. As we enter a new year, we wanted to build on that synergy in order to more seamlessly, effectively, and efficiently meet the needs of clients who are facing newfound pressures. As one company, we can help clients stay ahead of economic and industry shifts, give our employees more opportunities for professional growth, and accelerate in unison what had previously been two small firms’ efforts to grow organically.”

“ELEMENT is recognized as one of Tampa’s best places to work and for meeting the unique demands of complex projects in ways few other firms can,” says Jennifer Stafford, president of OMNI. “We couldn’t have found a better firm to unite with. As one team, we’ll be better positioned to provide current and future clients the high level of service and technical excellence they have come to expect and rely on. For the next two years, I will help guide clients and teams through the transition.”

The transition is expected to be smooth and swift. ELEMENT and OMNI nurture similar workplace cultures, have employees that augment each other’s expertise; and are certified DBEs–factors that proved key to winning and delivering successful projects.

Before the acquisition, ELEMENT’s services included transportation design, traffic engineering operations, structure design, utilities, civil/site design, and survey and mapping. For years, the firm sought the help of OMNI for projects requiring expertise in SUE, utility coordination. OMNI’s process was not only unique but met ELEMENT’s high standards.

In 2021, ELEMENT will focus on launching a stronger, unified brand more than 15 years in the making.

The .8-acre parcel on the west side of North Blvd. will be developed with the new 8200-square-foot building, associated parking and stormwater management facility.
